In this issue, we turn our attention to a pressing and deeply relevant topic: burnout among social workers in Hong Kong’s non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Social workers play a critical role in supporting vulnerable communities, yet their work is often accompanied by high levels of stress, emotional exhaustion, and burnout. This qualitative study delves into the causes, consequences, and coping strategies associated with burnout, offering valuable insights into the challenges faced by these dedicated professionals.
Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, this issue explores the unique pressures experienced by social workers in Hong Kong’s NGO sector, shedding light on the systemic, organizational, and personal factors that contribute to burnout. It also examines the far-reaching consequences of burnout, not only for the individuals affected but also for the organizations and communities they serve. Importantly, the study highlights practical coping strategies and potential interventions that can help mitigate burnout and promote well-being in this vital profession.
We hope this issue will spark meaningful conversations and inspire actionable solutions to support social workers in their invaluable work. By addressing burnout, we can contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable workforce, ultimately benefiting the broader community.

The rise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnoses highlights the need to address self-esteem, a key factor in well-being, among children with ASD. This systematic review identifies eight practices to enhance self-esteem, drawing from nine studies. The most effective and popular practices include seeking professional help, practising self-care, and setting realistic goals. However, challenges arise with practices like trying new things and surrounding oneself with positive people due to ASD-related characteristics such as social communication difficulties and sensory sensitivities. The findings emphasize the importance of tailored interventions that build confidence, encourage exploration, and foster supportive environments to promote personal growth and self-esteem in children with ASD.

BPR aims to promote knowledge exchange within the business psychology community and facilitate the advancement of this field.
